a wee Scottish tune →
The driver from the coach tour introduced us to his favorite Scottish Band: Peatbog Faeries. I think they’re pretty good…and this functions as a good prelude to my pictures. Enjoy!
Working hard or hardly working?
I’ve been asked about my classes by several people, so I thought I’d give everyone a brief explanation:
The students at University have 2 terms of classes (fall and spring) and 1 term of exams (summer). Most of the courses take 3 years to complete, but many students take a “Gap Year” (taking a year off to work, intern, or travel) and finish their course in 4 years.

Washing up Liquid- dish-washing soap
Bulldog- a game similar to Sharks and Minnows
Stuck in the Mud- a game similar to Freeze Tag
Shopping District- the mall
“Are you Alright?”- “what’s up?” (it surprises me every time they say it. I always think that I look like something is wrong, like I’m sick or upset.)
Chips- french fries
Crips- chips
Trousers- pants
Pants- underwear (it’s pretty embarrassing...
Learning the Lingo
So I’m settling into my new home here in Reading. When I first arrived, the weather was amazing…sunny skies with highs near 85 F. But now the temperature has dropped to the low 60’s F, and it’s mostly cloudy with on and off drizzle. Traditional British weather.
This whole week as been orientation week, so only the freshman (called “freshers” here)...
